Braces for Children

At our Seattle clinic, we use braces for children aged 11 to 13 only when necessary; gently guiding growing smiles to support long-term health and straight smiles.

Traditional Orthodontic Treatment for Reliable Results

Braces are a reliable, durable, and cost-effective way to straighten teeth and improve oral function. This versatile treatment option can address a wide range of orthodontic issues involving both the teeth and jaws.

For all of these reasons, they make a great choice for kids.

Most kids who need orthodontic intervention to correct misaligned teeth or jaws will start treatment with braces between the ages of 11 and 13, when all their permanent teeth have grown in.

In some rare cases, children as young as seven may benefit from braces. When recommended at this age, braces are used only when necessary, such as to create room for incoming adult teeth or correct crossbites.

Consultations & Monitoring for Children

Children should have their first orthodontic evaluation around the age of seven. This visit will provide your specialist with the opportunity to determine if any orthodontic treatment is recommended and the optimal time for treatment to begin.

If early treatment is recommended, we will work with you to get your child's treatment started right away. If not, we offer free assessment appointments every six to 12 months until your child is ready for braces.

Features of Braces for Kids

If you're a parent considering braces for your child, it's important to know that braces have changed since you were a kid. Here's how:

More Efficient

Kids who aren't super excited about getting braces will be pleased to know that innovations in orthodontic science have made braces more efficient at correcting misalignments than in the past. That translates to shorter treatment times for kids today.

More Streamlined

Not very long ago, braces were bulky and sharp, often accompanied by headgear. Today, metal braces are much smaller and lighter, designed with comfort and effectiveness in mind. An additional bonus is that modern braces typically only need to be adjusted every four to six weeks!

More Fun

Children's braces can actually be fun. They affect the appearance of the smile during treatment, and many of our young patients embrace the new style!

Braces Treatment at North Seattle Orthodontics

Orthodontic braces traditionally straighten teeth using a combination of brackets, elastic bands, and wires.

But today's braces aren't the clunky, uncomfortable face-full-of-metal that you might be picturing from decades ago. Modern braces are more streamlined and more comfortable than ever before.
